Electrosensitivity: A Case for Caution with Precaution
نویسنده
چکیده
What is Electrosensitivity? Electrosensitivity is a medically unexplained condition in which sufferers report experiencing adverse symptoms such as headaches, nausea or fatigue which are seemingly triggered by the presence of weak electromagnetic fields (EMF) such as those produced by mobile phones, computers or domestic appliances. The condition is controversial as there is no generally accepted mechanism to explain how these fields could cause short-term symptoms.

Letter to the editor: will we all become electrosensitive?
Dear Editor, Each year an increasing number of people claim to suffer from electrosensitivity (see, e.g., compilation of references given in Table 1), also known as being electrically hypersensitive (EHS). There are also other diseases, such as fibromyalgia and burn-out syndrome, that have symptoms similar to those exhibited by people suffering from electrosensitivity. In Sweden, electrosensiti...
متن کاملTinnitus and cell phones: the role of electromagnetic radiofrequency radiation.
INTRODUCTION Tinnitus is a multifactorial condition and its prevalence has increased on the past decades. The worldwide progressive increase of the use of cell phones has exposed the peripheral auditory pathways to a higher dose of electromagnetic radiofrequency radiation (EMRFR). Some tinnitus patients report that the abusive use of mobiles, especially when repeated in the same ear, might wors...
متن کاملElectroreception in the euryhaline stingray, Dasyatis sabina.
This study quantified the electrosensitivity of a euryhaline elasmobranch, the Atlantic stingray (Dasyatis sabina) across a range of salinities. Specimens from a permanent freshwater (FW) population in the St Johns River system, FL, USA, were compared with stingrays from the tidally dynamic Indian River Lagoon in east Florida, USA. Behavioral responses of stingrays to prey-simulating electric s...
متن کاملElectric current perception of children: the role of age and gender.
Although it is widely accepted that children merit increased protection, little is known about the quantitative consequences of electric currents when setting safety limits. Measurements were performed on 240 children (117 girls and 123 boys) older than 9 years. It was found that the electrosensitivity of children was higher than that of adults, but did not exceed the overall span of adult elec...
